Daniel Simpson

Daniel “Dan” Lennox Simpson

Daniel “Dan” Lennox Simpson, age 79, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.  Dan was born on Thursday, October 14, 1943, in Pittsburgh to the late James Gavin Simpson, Sr. and Mary (Lennox) Simpson.

Dan’s survivors include his wife of 50 years, Joyce Marie (Glessner) Simpson; his two children: Lori Jeanne Harrison of Mechanicsburg; David Francis Harrison and his wife, Gretchen, of London, England; his three grandchildren: Dean, Marshall and Emma Harrison; his brother, James Gavin Simpson, Jr. of Pittsburgh; his two nieces; and his beloved canine companion, Charlie.

Dan obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Grove City College.  He proudly served our country during the Vietnam War, spent four years on active duty in the United States Air Force and 16 years in the United States Air National Guard.  Dan retired in 2003 after 33 years of service working as a computer systems analyst at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Welfare.  He was a world traveler and enjoyed trying delicious food from all over the globe with his wife, Joyce.  They’ve been on over 50 cruises over the years, and although he had many favorite destinations, Dan favored Switzerland; he’d traveled there seven times.  Dan loved to read, support the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library, collect stamps and was very passionate about politics.  A very friendly and selfless person, Dan loved to talk and could talk to anyone about anything.  He was an outstanding Dad who always remained positive and upbeat, even during his cancer treatments, and he never complained. Dan will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

All are welcome to join Dan’s family at his committal ceremony on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where military honors will be presented.  Guests are invited to arrive at the cemetery at 2:45 p.m.  Cremation was private.

Contributions in celebration of Dan’s life can be made to Joseph T. Simpson Public Library, 16 North Walnut Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, www.cumberlandcountylibraries.org.
