Age 73, of Shiremanstown, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Born July 20, 1943 in Wheaton, IL, she was the daughter of the late James L. and Erma V. (Flygar) Newton. Fran did social service work throughout her life and had worked at Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh and the Health and Welfare Association of Allegheny County before moving to Central PA where she worked for -and ultimately retired from- Catholic Charities. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served on the Welcome Committee and as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Eucharist. In her free time, she was an avid reader and enjoyed doing needlepoint and completing puzzles. She was a proud mother who raised her boys to become two wonderful men. Surviving is her husband, Donald R. Stack; her sons, Donald Stack of Arlington, VA and Jeffrey Stack and wife Sarah of Spokane, WA; two granddaughters, Emma and Amelia; and her siblings, Nancy Dannels of Clifton, VA and James Newton of New Kensington, PA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Lawrence Newton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 6 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 E. Simpson Street, Mechanicsburg. Burial will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 5 at MALPEZZI FUNERAL HOME, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg.
