Clair was Sam Adams cousin and lived with Sam and his family 2 houses away from our house on Verona hilltop beginning when we all were about 5 years old. His nickname was "Scoober" and I have no idea why we called him that - we just did. As little kids we played tackle football together after school in the William McKinley school field across the street from our houses - Clair wore this old WWII Army tank helmet that was khaki in color and 5 times too big for him. When he ran with the football it flopped around his head and covered his eyes so he couldn't see where he was going. We also played organized baseball together in the Hot Stove League for the Yankees and since Clair was left handed, he was our 1st baseman. Sam and Clair were always together with Sam being the outgoing one and Clair staying in the background, but always being there. I'm sorry to hear of Clair's passing and losing another wonderful person from my childhood memories. Gene Bouma

Clair was one of my best friends. We always had a lot  good times.  For many years, Clair and I sat together in the trumpet section. He and Sam Adams were always together, they were such a close team. He is going to be missed by many. Clair was one the best members in our class. It was an honor to have had him in my life during our high school years and through college at Geneva. What a friend and gentleman he always was.  The memories of Clair will always be with me.
